A routine pizza run in North Philadelphia ended in deadly violence on Friday, when a 28-year-old Pete's Pizza delivery driver was shot and killed after dropping off an order at a vacant unit in the Raymond Rosen Homes on the 2300 block of Edgley Street. Police found the man with a gunshot wound to the head, rushed him to a hospital, and he was later pronounced dead.
According to 6ABC, officers recovered three spent shell casings at the scene. Surveillance video reportedly shows the driver walking with pizza boxes while being followed by two people dressed in dark clothing. Inside the vacant unit where the order was left, investigators found three pizza boxes and a bag that appeared untouched, and they later located the victim's vehicle nearby with a pizza warmer inside.
Chief Inspector Scott Small told 6ABC, "We were able to identify the pizza shop from the pizza boxes." Investigators said the 28-year-old was shot in the head and later pronounced dead, and no one was in custody at the time of the initial report.
Delivery Drivers And A Troubling Pattern
The killing adds to a troubling pattern for delivery workers in North Philadelphia. In June 2024, a Pete's Pizza driver was fatally shot outside the Ridge Avenue location, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Local coverage at the time said surveillance footage and police work were central to that probe as well, as noted by CBS Philadelphia.
Investigation And How To Help
The Philadelphia Police Department's Homicide Unit is leading the investigation and is asking anyone with information to call 215-686-TIPS (8477) or the Homicide Unit directly at 215-686-3334, according to the department's website. Detectives are reviewing available video and are urging residents who may have camera footage or knowledge of the incident to contact investigators.
