Overnight gunfire in St. Paul's Dayton's Bluff neighborhood left two teenage males wounded early Sunday, after shots rang out on the 1100 block of Third Avenue East. Police were called to the area around 12:46 a.m., where medics found the two victims and rushed them to the hospital. Investigators say they are still working to piece together what led up to the shooting.
St. Paul Police Department spokeswoman Alyssa Arcand told KSTP that officers arrived to find a 17-year-old who had been shot in the back and an 18-year-old who had been struck in the foot. Fire medics took both to Regions Hospital for treatment, Arcand said. As of now, police have not announced any arrests in the case.
Police response and how to report tips
The Saint Paul Police Department is asking anyone who might have seen or recorded anything to come forward. The department notes that non-emergency tips can be submitted by calling 651-291-1111 or by filing an online report through the St. Paul Police website. Investigators say video, photos, or even small details could help move the case forward.
Where this fits in local strategy
City leaders have pointed to a dedicated Non-Fatal Shooting Unit that treats nonfatal shootings like “failed homicides,” assigning investigators quickly, an approach local reporting credits with pushing clearance rates into the low 70s and driving a sharp year-to-year drop in nonfatal shootings. The model has drawn attention from nearby cities and state lawmakers, according to reporting by Police1.
Police say the investigation into Sunday’s shooting remains active, and that more information will be released as it becomes available. Anyone with tips, footage, or neighborhood security camera clips that could help the probe is urged to contact the department or submit information through its online reporting tools.
