Top Arizona officials packed into an Airbus supplier showcase in Phoenix on Friday, pitching the state as a rising heavyweight in the aerospace game while the company’s North American brass looked on. Governor Katie Hobbs, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego and U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton joined Airbus executives and more than 60 aerospace and defense suppliers to talk sourcing, contracts and how Arizona manufacturers can grab a bigger slice of the company’s expanding U.S. operations.

Officials Highlight Arizona's Aerospace Momentum

According to the Arizona Commerce Authority, Airbus and the ACA hosted Airbus Supplier Day in Phoenix, where Robin Hayes, chairman and CEO of Airbus in North America, and ACA president and CEO Sandra Watson joined Governor Hobbs and other leaders. Hobbs called it an example of “the power of collaboration” and a reason Arizona “continues to be at the forefront of aerospace innovation and growth,” according to the ACA release.

The agency said that since 2020 the state has landed more than 62 aerospace and defense expansions, totaling roughly $3.3 billion in investment and more than 18,400 new jobs. Officials at the event framed that track record as proof that Arizona is no longer just a contender, but a serious player in the global supply chain conversation.

Where the $435 Million Figure Comes From

The day’s optics also helped launch a buzzy number into the social-media bloodstream. Rep. Greg Stanton wrote that “Arizona companies supplied $435 million in components to Airbus last year alone,” a line that Mayor Kate Gallego then shared on X.

That $435 million figure is tied to Stanton’s social post, not to the Arizona Commerce Authority’s event release, which does not list that specific total. Mayor Gallego’s repost and the original wording are available on her X account for those who want to see exactly how the claim was framed.

Airbus Expands Local Footprint With Unical and ecube

Beyond the one-day showcase, Airbus has been quietly tightening its Arizona footprint. Satair, an Airbus company, completed the acquisition of Unical Aviation and its ecube subsidiary in May, bringing operations in Glendale and Coolidge into the group, according to Airbus.

Unical says it relocated a major warehouse and corporate operations to Glendale as part of its growth plans, a shift company leaders describe as a way to deepen local sourcing opportunities for Arizona shops. With Unical and ecube under the Airbus umbrella, suppliers at Friday’s event were told they now have more direct pathways to bid on work tied to the global manufacturer.

What's Next for Suppliers

The Arizona Commerce Authority says it is not letting the momentum stop in Phoenix. The agency plans to lead a delegation of local aerospace and defense companies to the Farnborough International Airshow in July to put Arizona suppliers in front of global buyers.

Officials say the goal is straightforward: turn introductions into contracts and contracts into jobs for Arizona firms, as Airbus and other industry heavyweights keep extending their U.S. supply networks.
