A 70-year-old Port Barre man is behind bars after deputies say he phoned in violent threats to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, then drove straight to the parish Public Safety Complex with two firearms in his vehicle. Detectives met the man in the complex parking lot and arrested him there. Authorities say the caller threatened Sheriff Bobby Guidroz and "every white officer" at the office.
According to KATC, the sheriff’s office identified the suspect as Leroy Alexandria, 70, of Port Barre. The outlet reports that Alexandria first called the sheriff's office, then drove to the Public Safety Complex, where detectives confronted and took him into custody. He now faces charges of terrorizing, public intimidation and retaliation, KATC reports.
Where It Happened
The St. Landry Parish Public Safety Complex is listed at 1592 E. Prudhomme Street in Opelousas on the sheriff’s office website, which notes that patrol and investigations divisions operate from the facility. Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz heads the department, and the contact page includes the main phone line for public tips. The complex serves as the base for the parish’s investigative units that handled the response.
Charges and Legal Context
Alexandria faces terrorizing, public intimidation and retaliation charges, according to KATC. Under Louisiana law, the crime of terrorizing is defined as intentionally communicating that a crime of violence is imminent or that a circumstance dangerous to human life exists, with the intent to cause sustained fear or serious public disruption, as explained in Justia in court documents reviewing La. R.S. 14:40.1. Penalties can include prison time and substantial fines, depending on the facts of the case.
