
A 26-year-old man is in critical but stable condition after being shot early Saturday outside the VIP Lounge on North Broadway in downtown Knoxville, according to police. Officers responding just before 4 a.m. found the man on the sidewalk near the club's entrance and rushed him to the University of Tennessee Medical Center. Multiple people at the scene were detained for questioning while detectives combed the area for clues.
As reported by WVLT, Knoxville Police Department officers arrived at the VIP Lounge at 2314 N. Broadway shortly before 4 a.m. and discovered the gunshot victim outside the entrance. According to the station, he was transported to UT Medical Center for treatment and remains in critical but stable condition. WVLT also noted that no arrests had been announced and that investigators are still working to determine what led to the shooting.
Police response
KPD officers shut down the block around the club in the aftermath, setting up a perimeter as detectives interviewed witnesses and documented the scene. The Knoxville Police Department offers several resources for residents, including a non-emergency line and options for submitting tips, as investigators continue to work the case. As of the latest update, the department had not released a suspect description or a possible motive.
Hospital and treatment
The victim was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, the region's Level I trauma center, where staff stabilized him, according to hospital information. The University of Tennessee Medical Center notes that its Emergency and Trauma Center serves a 21 county region and handles complex injuries. Hospital officials typically do not release patient names, and the medical center had not issued an immediate statement about this specific case.
