Little Miner Taco has quietly called it quits at its Rockville Town Square storefront, shutting the doors less than two years after opening in July 2024. The birria-focused spot says it will still feed Rockville via its food truck while keeping other locations in the region running. The move caught many regulars off guard, especially those who had made a habit of lining up for the chain's quesotacos and consommé.
According to MoCo Show, the company sent a message to customers confirming the permanent closure and thanking the Rockville community for its support. In that note, the restaurant wrote, "Over the years, we’ve served thousands of birria tacos, built an incredible team, and been supported by an even more incredible community." The outlet reported that Little Miner will continue to operate a truck in the area and keep its Brentwood and D.C. units open.
What Little Miner was known for
Little Miner built a following for its Birria De Res Queso tacos, slow-braised beef folded into cheesy tortillas and served with a rich consommé for dipping. Owner Kathy Voss has credited the menu's from-scratch approach and executive chef Joel Sánchez for much of the flavor work, according to Streetcar Suburbs.
A short standalone run in Rockville
The Rockville outpost opened as a standalone shop in July 2024 after Little Miner spent time in food halls and pop-up kitchens around the region. The Greater Rockville Chamber documented a ribbon-cutting that welcomed the woman-owned business into Town Square and shared photos from the ceremony, with local officials and community groups turning out to celebrate the new arrival.
Where to find Little Miner now
Little Miner's ordering page currently lists active locations in Brentwood and D.C. and posts truck locations and schedules for pop-up service across the DMV. That site indicates Rockville customers may still get their Little Miner fix through mobile operations while the brick-and-mortar stays dark, and it directs visitors to the restaurant's store and truck pages for the latest pickup and truck details.
What this means for Town Square
Rockville Town Square continues to see steady restaurant turnover, with fresh concepts moving in while others bow out after relatively short runs. Store Reporter noted that Big Papi's Tacos opened across the square in 2025, a reminder that competition and churn keep reshaping the local dining scene.
MoCo Show was first to report the closure and relay the restaurant's farewell message, while Little Miner's ordering pages still reflect its broader footprint and truck options. We will update this post if the company releases a fuller statement or makes changes to its public ordering pages.
