A 46-year-old Orlando man died Saturday in a violent two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. 41 and County Road 335 in rural Levy County, according to state troopers. A 53-year-old woman from Archer was taken to a hospital with what troopers described as minor injuries. Florida Highway Patrol investigators stayed on scene as they began piecing together what happened at the remote crossroads.
Troopers’ account of the wreck
According to WESH, which cited a Florida Highway Patrol crash report, the crash happened when a sedan traveling west on County Road 335 failed to stop at the stop sign and was hit by a pickup truck traveling north on U.S. 41. Troopers said the Orlando man, who was driving the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman from Archer, who was in the pickup, was transported to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Investigators have not released any additional details, including the names of the people involved, as they continue to collect evidence and interview witnesses. Troopers are still working to determine what led up to the impact at the rural intersection.
Where to find the official record
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles maintains official traffic crash records and explains how the public can request reports. Once the Florida Highway Patrol files and processes the formal crash report, it will be available through the Florida Crash Portal for media, attorneys, or family members seeking more detailed information.
The state’s online dashboard also provides county-level crash statistics, which can be used to track patterns on rural corridors like U.S. 41 and County Road 335.
What officials say drivers should do
WESH reported that troopers urged drivers to use extra caution on that stretch of U.S. 41 while emergency crews cleared the scene and investigators worked the crash.
Authorities are asking anyone who saw the collision or has video of the area around the time of the wreck to contact the Florida Highway Patrol, so those accounts and recordings can be reviewed as part of the final report. This story will be updated as troopers release more information.
