Sacramento woke up to clear skies and a cool, almost springlike start on Sunday, June 7, 2026, with temperatures near 54°F at Sacramento Executive Airport. The chill will not last. Expect plenty of sun and a warm afternoon high near 87°F. Low humidity combined with breezy conditions in parts of the valley will bring brief pockets of elevated fire risk this afternoon and evening.
Afternoon Winds Pick Up
Winds will be a bit of a moving target today. Northwest and onshore breezes will increase this afternoon, generally around 1 to 6 mph, but stronger in some favored corridors before turning southerly and gustier into Monday.
According to the National Weather Service Sacramento, south-southwest winds on Monday could reach 5 to 13 mph with gusts near 22 mph while daytime humidity stays low. That mix of gusts and humidity in the teens to low 20s, with single digits possible in parts of the northern valley, is the main reason for the brief elevated fire-weather concern.
Heat Builds Midweek
After a relatively mild start to the week, the heat starts to flex. Highs rebound to the upper 80s on Tuesday, then climb into the upper 90s to low triple digits by midweek on Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11.
Forecast highs near 97°F on Wednesday and around 101°F on Thursday mean outdoor plans will feel very hot by midweek, with overnight lows staying on the warm side. North winds late in the week could combine with low humidity to raise wildfire concerns across the Valley and Delta, so fire weather will stay on the radar even as the thermometer spikes.
What To Watch
Today looks straightforward: sunny skies and light to moderate winds. Monday brings stronger breezes, and there is a slight chance of mountain showers early next week. Outside of those mountain chances, the period looks mostly dry, so the main impacts will be the building heat and bouts of gusty wind.
If you have outdoor events, plan to shift strenuous activity to mornings or evenings from Wednesday through Friday (June 10 to 12) and prepare for hot conditions during the afternoon peak.
Plan Ahead
Secure loose outdoor items before the breezier periods, avoid open-flame activities where they are restricted, and check in on neighbors or family members who rely heavily on air conditioning as temperatures climb. If you do not have reliable AC, you can call 2-1-1 Sacramento for information on cooling centers and transportation options.
