Two Sanford police officers turned an everyday call into a slithery situation on Tuesday, when they responded to a report of a snake in a bathroom and removed a ball python from a home without anyone getting hurt. The calm, by-the-book response was one of those odd jobs that occasionally lands in an officer’s lap during a regular patrol.
Officers Remove the Snake
According to WFTV, Officers Sozio and Moore of the Sanford Police Department answered the call and found a ball python inside the bathroom. WFTV reports that the officers swiftly and safely removed the snake and confirmed that there were no injuries.
Who to Contact if You Find a Snake
Seminole County operates an animal services division that deals with domestic and stray animals and can advise residents who encounter pets or other animals, according to Seminole County Animal Services. Residents who discover an animal can contact the shelter for guidance or to arrange a pickup.
Ball Pythons Are Common Pet Snakes
Ball pythons are non-venomous, relatively docile snakes native to West and Central Africa, and are commonly kept as pets, according to Saginaw Zoo. If you come across a snake you do not recognize, it is safest to avoid handling it yourself and instead contact local animal services or a licensed wildlife removal professional.
