A quiet afternoon on San Antonio's Far West Side turned frightening Monday when two children were bitten by their own family's dogs inside a house near the 8100 block of Sheldon Trail, authorities said.
Bexar County deputies rushed to the home around 4:30 p.m. and found the injured children inside. Both were taken to a hospital. Officials have not released how badly the kids were hurt, and the investigation is ongoing.
Deputies: Two Family Dogs Bit the Children
According to News 4 San Antonio, deputies determined that two of the family's dogs bit the children and that both victims were transported for medical care. The station's report, by Jessica Warner on June 29, 2026, notes that deputies remained on the scene as of Monday evening and that officials had not released additional details about what led up to the attack.
City Seeing Multiple Recent Attacks
The Sheldon Trail case is the latest in a string of dog-bite incidents reported across San Antonio this spring.
On June 9, San Antonio Animal Care Services quarantined three Australian cattle dog mixes and cited the owner after a woman was injured on the Northwest Side, according to KSAT.
Local coverage has also highlighted a rise in dangerous-dog cases even after the city increased funding for Animal Care Services. The San Antonio Current examined that trend and the added pressure it places on enforcement, noting concerns about how effectively those extra dollars are being put to work.
What the Law Requires After a Bite
Under city code and Animal Care Services guidance, a biting animal must be reported and is typically quarantined for up to 10 days. The city's rules say animals can be seized and owners may face fines or even criminal citations if they violate local ordinances.
Municipal materials lay out the steps: reporting the bite, confining the animal and following through on any penalties. Those can include sterilization requirements for dogs that bite without provocation. As of now, officials have not said whether Animal Care Services has taken custody of the dogs involved in the Sheldon Trail incident.
Deputies have not released the children's names or their medical conditions. This article will be updated if authorities provide additional information.
