A fast-moving fire at a four‑story apartment building in Sherman Oaks gave residents a scare Thursday afternoon, but firefighters shut it down so quickly that no one was hurt and the flames never jumped beyond a single unit.
The call came in for 4355 N Sepulveda Blvd at 2:38 p.m., logged as INC#1223, after neighbors reported smoke from the modern apartment building. According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, first-arriving crews found fire in one unit and knocked down the visible flames in just 16 minutes. Officials reported no injuries and confirmed the blaze did not extend to any adjacent units. Fire Station 88 and Battalion 10 were among the companies sent to the scene, part of a sizable response for a busy stretch of Sepulveda.
Fast response kept the damage localized
The incident is the latest apartment fire this spring in Sherman Oaks to draw multiple engines and trucks. Earlier in May, a sizable May blaze brought ladder trucks and prompted evacuations in the neighborhood. Taken together, that earlier scare and Thursday afternoon's quick knockdown underscore how little time firefighters have to protect tenants and limit property loss in dense Valley blocks. Officials said additional details on the extent of damage and the cause will be released after crews finish their work on scene.
How to stay informed
Residents were asked to steer clear of the immediate area while firefighters completed overhaul and safety checks and to rely on official channels for updates. The department posted a status update on X, and the Los Angeles Fire Department Alerts page is carrying ongoing incident information. Tenants or property managers with questions are urged to contact building management or local city services for guidance.
