San Antonio is getting its first taste of Smorange on Wednesday, when Smalls Sliders rolls out its debut local "can" at 3103 Wurzbach Road. The bright orange slider shack is bringing its tiny cheeseburgers, seasoned waffle fries and rotating milkshakes to the Northwest Side with a walk-up and slide-thru setup, shaded patio seating and free swag promised for the first 100 customers in line. Expect a loud, early crowd and a bit of a wait this week as curious locals line up to see what the fuss is about.
The Wurzbach can officially opens Wednesday, and co-franchisee Danny Hakim said in a release to CultureMap San Antonio that "the response we've seen from the community has left us blown away." The spot is run by Ramzi and Danny Hakim of Hakim Restaurant Group, a duo with decades of restaurant experience around San Antonio.
What They Are Serving
The menu keeps things tight on purpose. Smalls centers almost everything around its OG slider, built with premium beef, melted American cheese, a pickle and the chain's signature Smauce, with seasoned waffle fries, queso and hand-spun milkshakes in rotating flavors, according to the brand's menu at Smalls Sliders. Party packs are on offer along with simple upgrades like bacon or the Biggie Smalls double-patty option, a streamlined format designed to move orders quickly and keep prices in check.
Franchise Plans And Price Points
In 2024 the Hakims signed a franchising agreement to bring up to 12 Smalls cans to San Antonio, according to a company release reported by Franchising.com. State permit records hint at more on the way; an accessibility filing lists a planned Smalls at 2418 SE Military Drive, per the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Local coverage pegs combo prices at about $8.99 for a two-slider meal and $13.99 for a four-slider combo, according to CultureMap San Antonio.
Grand-Opening Details And Community Tie-In
Opening-day festivities kick off at 10 a.m. with a grand-opening party and giveaways, and the first 100 guests in line are slated to score free Smalls swag, according to an event listing on Visit San Antonio. The Hakims have also tapped the San Antonio Food Bank as the location's designated Smalls Town Hero, a community partnership noted by What Now.
Why The Can Matters
The Smalls "can" itself is the star of the show. The compact modular building, crowned by a Smorange shipping container, is a core part of the brand's look and marketing. The company even teamed up with the Pantone Color Institute to lock in its custom hue, as reported by Nation's Restaurant News. That prefab model lets the chain drop new units into fresh markets quickly, which is why franchisees are betting on a series of cans across the city rather than a one-and-done experiment.
For future openings and hours, Smalls' "Find a Can" page and rewards program are live at Smalls Sliders. If you plan to slide through Wurzbach on Wednesday, you will want to bring a little patience and a serious craving for a mini cheeseburger and a milkshake.
