Virginia-Highland is getting a new neighborhood hangout on July 2, when So. Fox opens its doors as a 50-seat, wine-focused restaurant from the team behind Kinship Butcher & Sundry. The first full-service project from chef Myles Moody and sommelier Rachael Pack pairs hyper-seasonal, technique-driven plates with a tightly edited list of low-intervention wines. The idea is simple: swing by for a quick glass at the bar or settle in for a slow, multi-course evening, with a menu that leans on Southern produce, fermentation and frequent seasonal changes.
Menu highlights
The opening lineup leans savory, precise and very much of-the-moment. Diners will find amberjack finished with badger flame beet, sorghum and smoked tomato, along with a grilled beef dish served with Vidalia onions, braised leeks and marrow. Starters include drop dumplings with nettle, confit rabbit and fermented young alliums, as reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Oysters arrive with Meyer lemon kosho and pickled coriander daikon, and preserved sides include charred pickled pumpkin. For dessert, the kitchen is sending out a malted barley torte topped with creamed pecans and aji dulce.
Wine, farms and sourcing
On the beverage side, Pack will curate a list that leans hard into small producers and low-intervention bottles, with a focus on organic and biodynamic wines, according to Pack Hospitality. The same source notes that the kitchen draws heavily from the couple’s Under Acre Farm in Ormewood Park. The plan is an approachable, à la carte menu that feels casual and community-centered, built so guests can drop in for a glass and a snack or make a night of it with a full dinner.
From Kinship to a full-service dining room
So. Fox marks Pack Hospitality’s first full-service restaurant after the 2021 debut of Kinship Butcher & Sundry and the k|n tasting pop-ups, Eater Atlanta reports. Moody and Pack met while working at Aska and bring resumes that include Eleven Madison Park and Blue Hill at Stone Barns, pedigrees that show up in Moody’s carefully handled proteins and fermentation-forward approach. Eater also notes that the building started life as a Standard Oil filling station and most recently housed Farm Burger before So. Fox took over the space.
Practical details
So. Fox will open July 2 and operate from 5 to 10 p.m. Thursday through Monday, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The 50-seat dining room is outfitted in natural oak with a neutral palette, and the owners say they are aiming for a neighborhood-friendly feel that is more accessible than their tasting-menu events. The restaurant is located at 1017 N. Highland Ave. NE, Atlanta. Kinship remains next door at 1019 Virginia Ave. NE.
