A late May robbery at a Valero on San Antonio's Southwest Side left a 26-year-old clerk injured after a man reached into an open cash drawer and grabbed money, according to police. The suspect ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash and is still on the loose.
What investigators say
San Antonio police say the man walked into the store as if he were just buying a beverage. When the clerk opened the register, he allegedly lunged for the cash, grabbing money from the drawer. As the clerk tried to stop him, a struggle broke out and she was injured, police say, before the suspect bolted from the scene.
Crime Stoppers of San Antonio is now putting up a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to a felony arrest in the case, according to News 4 San Antonio.
Reward and how to tip
To qualify for the reward, Crime Stoppers says tips have to be submitted directly to the organization, stay anonymous, and include information that was not already known to law enforcement. The group lists several ways to get in touch: call 210-224-STOP, use the P3 Tips mobile app, submit online at Crime Stoppers of San Antonio, or text "Tip 127" to CRIMES (274637).
Seen this before
Local reporting shows that pairing Crime Stoppers rewards with convenience-store cases is a go-to move in San Antonio when detectives need fresh leads. In 2024, Hoodline covered a Culebra Road Valero heist that also came with a $5,000 reward attached. Those partnerships are a regular part of efforts to draw tips from the public, especially when surveillance footage or eyewitness information is thin, Hoodline reported.
What investigators want
Investigators are asking anyone who may have seen the suspect, or who might have captured the incident on a cellphone, to review what they have and share anything useful with Crime Stoppers or San Antonio police. Officials say tips that lead to an arrest could be eligible for the advertised reward, and anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers right away.
