What police reported
According to the Sacramento Police Department, officers spotted the stolen vehicle driving in the Del Paso and Northgate area, and a short vehicle pursuit followed. Police say the chase ended when the car hit a fence, and the driver took off on foot before officers chased him down and detained him.
In the department’s account, officers identified the driver as 34-year-old Antonio Servantes of Sacramento. After he was in custody, officers searched the vehicle and reported finding a firearm inside. The post credited proactive policing and highlighted the quick response of officers in making the arrest.
Northgate corridor has a recent history of crashes
The crash occurred along a stretch of Northgate Boulevard that has already seen deadly collisions this year, including a January head-on crash that killed three people, according to The Sacramento Bee. City traffic planning documents also mark the corridor as a crash hotspot, per the City of Sacramento's Northgate Boulevard Transportation Plan.
That pattern has fueled local coverage and calls for renewed safety measures along the Northgate and Del Paso corridors, as residents watch another crash added to the list, this time involving an allegedly stolen car.
Charges and next steps
The department’s post said Servantes was arrested on related charges but did not specify the counts. Formal charges and booking details are expected to appear in court records once prosecutors file the case.
"Excellent work, our officers’ quick response to act is what keeps this community safe," the department wrote, thanking officers for the arrest and the recovery of the firearm. Neighbors and drivers who rely on the Northgate corridor say they hope the city and police focus on preventing the kinds of thefts and crashes that have punctuated the area this year.
