It is a warm morning today in Cleveland, with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the mid-60s before highs climb into the mid-80s this afternoon. The real story, though, is tomorrow, June 14, when a cold front is expected to sweep east and bring widespread showers and thunderstorms that could easily upend daytime plans.
Sunday Storms: Timing And Rainfall
Showers and thunderstorms are most likely tomorrow between about 7 a.m. and 4 p.m., with a high near 77 F and a roughly 90% chance of precipitation. Forecasters say new rainfall amounts of around a half to three-quarters of an inch are possible in heavier bands, so expect wet roads and pockets of brief heavy downpours, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
Where Storms Could Turn Severe
Some storms may be strong to severe, especially along and east of Interstate 71. Damaging straight-line winds are the primary concern, though a brief tornado or large hail cannot be completely ruled out. The Storm Prediction Center has a Day 2 Slight Risk across parts of the Upper Ohio Valley, including eastern Ohio and the Mahoning Valley.
Afternoon Winds And Lake Concerns
Southwest winds will be light to moderate today before picking up into the 7 to 15 mph range. Gusts could spike locally in and near storms. Boaters on Lake Erie should be prepared for choppy water and a period of stronger winds tomorrow afternoon and evening, and forecasters say a Small Craft Advisory may be needed if winds trend higher.
Weekend Planner
If you have outdoor events scheduled for tomorrow, consider moving them earlier in the day or keeping an indoor backup ready. Wet, gusty weather will make outdoor gatherings and errands slower and messier. There are no watches or warnings in effect right now, but conditions could change quickly tomorrow morning, so keep an eye on updates from the National Weather Service in Cleveland.
