Two 19-year-olds are facing charges after Allegheny County investigators say a man was robbed at gunpoint and his vehicle was taken in Swissvale on June 6. The stolen car later turned up at a crash scene, where evidence helped detectives zero in on the suspects. Authorities have identified the people charged as Evan I. Jackson and Kiara Williams.
As reported by WPXI, the victim told police he was leaving work on the 7500 block of Dickson Street when a man with a gun approached him, forced him across the parking lot, and took his vehicle. A woman then came into the lot and joined the robber before they drove off. The vehicle was later found at the intersection of South Braddock Avenue and Roslyn Street, where two people fled the crash scene. Investigators credited evidence found at the wreck with helping identify the suspects.
Evidence From Crash Linked Suspects
According to the Allegheny County Police Department, Jackson is charged with robbery, robbery of a motor vehicle, carrying a firearm without a license, and possession of a firearm. Williams faces charges that include criminal conspiracy and accidents involving damage to an attended vehicle or property, officials said.
Charges and Next Steps
Channel 11 reported that investigators announced the identifications on Monday and are seeking court paperwork that could shed more light on the evidence and any possible additional charges, according to WPXI. The charges remain allegations, and Jackson and Williams are entitled to the presumption of innocence as the case moves through the Allegheny County court system.
Local Context: Car Theft and Safety
Neighbors and area police have been on heightened alert this month after a run of vehicle break-ins and thefts in neighboring boroughs. Recently, Edgewood police warned residents after several Kias and Hyundais were targeted, and a stolen vehicle tied to that spree was recovered in Pittsburgh. The Swissvale-Braddock Hills Regional Police Department serves the borough and typically coordinates with county detectives on investigations. Anyone with information about the June 6 incident is asked to contact the Allegheny County Police Department.
