A 20-year-old Cheraw man who was on the radar of state probation, parole and pardon services is now in custody after a traffic stop in Chesterfield County, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities identified the driver as Kenny Jaquan Hartman. Deputies say he is facing a slate of charges that includes possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, child endangerment, resisting arrest, speeding and failure to stop for blue lights. The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest Saturday evening in a post on social media.

What The Sheriff’s Office Posted

According to the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office Facebook, Hartman is a 20-year-old from Cheraw who frequents the Cheraw and Pageland areas. The post states that he was taken into custody and notes he was wanted by probation, parole and pardon services as well as by the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's post also cautioned the public, saying “do not attempt to apprehend him yourself,” and listed the non-emergency tip line at 843-623-6838 along with the main sheriff's office number, 843-623-2101. Those numbers match the listings for the agency in the South Carolina Sheriffs' Association directory.

Legal Exposure

South Carolina law makes it unlawful for anyone previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison to possess a firearm. That prohibition is laid out in South Carolina Code § 16-23-500.

On top of that, federal law separately bars felons from having guns under 18 U.S.C. § 922, a statute that can carry hefty penalties if a case ends up in federal court.

What We Could Not Independently Verify

Outside of the sheriff's social media post, there were no immediately available court records or independent news reports backing up the details of the arrest at the time of publication. Booking information and formal charging documents may surface later in local magistrate filings.

We will update this story if Chesterfield County court records or additional reporting add new, verifiable information.
