Bicycle Safety for Young Riders
Crashes involving vehicles and young bicyclists can result in serious injuries, which is why safety experts push for close supervision and proper gear for kids on bikes. The CDC notes that a properly fitted bicycle helmet can lower the risk of head and brain injuries, and that helmet laws and adults consistently wearing helmets can boost helmet use among children.
Public health officials also recommend choosing lower-traffic streets or off-road paths for young riders and keeping children within sight to help reduce the chances of a crash.
