Before sunrise Thursday, a car slammed into an apartment building on Las Vegas' west side and the driver took off before officers could show up, according to police. When Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers arrived, they found the vehicle empty and, so far, no injuries have been reported. Investigators spent the morning canvassing the area for witnesses and any available video.

According to FOX5, the collision happened at about 3:35 a.m. in the area of Vegas Drive and Rock Springs Drive, when a vehicle left the roadway and hit a structure. The station reports that LVMPD confirmed the driver ran from the scene and that officers stayed on site to investigate while confirming that no injuries had been reported.
Police Search Under Way
KTNV reports officers arrived to find the car unoccupied and placed the crash at roughly 3:53 a.m., just south of Lake Mead Boulevard near the I-11. The outlet notes that police have not released any identifying information about a suspect as detectives continue to comb the area for evidence.
Traffic Safety Context
The hit-and-run comes as LVMPD and local outlets warn of an uptick in crashes heading into summer. FOX5 recently published LVMPD's list of the 50 intersections with the most collisions in May and highlighted the department's "100 Deadliest Days" safety effort. Officials are urging drivers to slow down and to share relevant dashcam or doorbell video to help with ongoing investigations.
How To Help
Anyone who saw the crash or has video that might show the impact or the driver leaving the scene is asked to contact the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department or submit a tip online. Contact details and public information officer information are available on the department's website. Investigators say tips and footage can be key to determining who was behind the wheel.
