An early-morning argument outside a west Houston apartment turned into a shooting on Sunday, sending one man to the hospital and leaving the resident who pulled the trigger without charges for now, according to police.
Houston officers say the confrontation unfolded at The Landing at Westchase, where a resident standing at his apartment door got into a dispute with a visitor. Investigators report the visitor shoved the resident, who then fired a single shot, hitting the man in the abdomen. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital and was listed in stable condition while detectives continued to sort out what happened.
Police account
Houston police told FOX 26 Houston they responded around 12:40 a.m. to a shooting call at The Landing at Westchase and found a man with a gunshot wound to the left side of his abdomen. According to investigators, the resident initially retreated toward his apartment patio during the argument. The visitor then came back toward the door and shoved the resident, which is when the resident drew a firearm and fired once. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the wounded man to a local hospital, authorities said.
Where it happened
The Landing at Westchase is listed at 9797 Meadowglen Lane in the city’s Westchase neighborhood. The area has seen other late-night disputes that turned violent in recent years, including a 2024 apartment pool incident detailed in Houston pool party shooting. Neighbors and renters at similar complexes often tell local outlets they want more visible policing and tighter building security after incidents like this.
DA review and legal implications
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has declined to accept charges against the resident at this time while investigators gather more evidence, FOX 26 Houston reported. That means prosecutors have not yet authorized an arrest or formally filed any charges, though police say the case remains active as they review witness statements and any available surveillance or body-worn camera footage. Anyone with information is being asked to contact HPD’s Major Assaults division or Crime Stoppers.
