
A worker died Monday morning after a roughly 30-foot fall from scaffolding set up over the pool at Barack Obama Academy in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. Emergency crews found an adult woman at the bottom of the empty pool and took her to a nearby hospital in grave condition, where medical staff pronounced her dead shortly after she arrived. Police have not yet released her name.
According to CBS Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh EMS, fire crews and Zone 5 officers were called just before 9 a.m. to the 500 block of North Highland Avenue. Police said construction workers had been doing work in the school’s pool area, where scaffolding had been erected, and responders found the woman at the bottom of the drained pool. Violent crime unit detectives were called in as part of standard procedure.

The incident took place at the Barack Obama Academy of International Studies, which the district lists at 515 N Highland Ave in East Liberty, according to Pittsburgh Public Schools. The academy operates as an International Baccalaureate 6–12 campus. District pages do not yet include a statement on the fatal fall.
