Express Ranches, the Yukon operation known for its prize Angus cattle and touring Clydesdales, is starting a multistage dispersal of its purebred cattle herd that will wind down over the next several years. The move is set to culminate in a three-day dispersion sale scheduled for Oct. 5–7, 2026, followed by an annual fall bull sale on Oct. 19 and an additional spring bull and female sale on March 31, 2027. For many residents in this Oklahoma City suburb, it is the kind of announcement they never expected to hear.
The ranch quietly posted a notice on its website saying it is “in the early stages of dispersing its cattle herd” and listing the Oct. 5–7 dispersion sale, the Oct. 19 fall bull sale and the March 31, 2027 spring sale, according to Express Ranches. In the same statement, the decision was described as “bittersweet,” with the ranch thanking customers and staff for more than three decades of participation.
Family, land and local reaction
The Funk family told reporters they had turned down interest from data-center operators and said the land will remain in the Funk estate while some ranching activities continue, according to reporting by KOCO. That report also notes that some Express Percherons and Clydesdales have already been sold, and that several Yukon residents described the changes as an unexpected development.
A national-scale operation
Express Ranches runs thousands of acres and, by the ranch’s own accounting and local reporting, has fed as many as 50,000 head of cattle per year, selling roughly 2,000 bulls and more than 2,000 heifers annually, according to The Journal Record. That scale is a big part of why breeders and buyers across the United States pay close attention to the ranch’s sale calendar.
Horses, tourism and a local landmark
The Express Clydesdales and Percherons have long served as a public face of the operation, used as a marketing tool for the Express brand since the late 1990s. The team and the restored Clydesdale barn remain open for scheduled visits and private events, according to Express Clydesdales. While the Funk family has acknowledged that some of the horses have been sold, the barn’s event and tour information is still active.
What comes next
The ranch’s sale calendar currently lists the Oct. 5–7, 2026 dispersal sale, the Oct. 19 fall bull sale and the March 31, 2027 spring bull and female sale, with catalog and registration details being posted by the ranch, according to Express Ranches. Local leaders and longtime customers will be watching closely to see how the multiyear dispersal reshapes Yukon’s rural economy and the area’s agricultural events calendar.
