Zippy's is pulling the plug on its Hualapai Way restaurant in the Summerlin area of Las Vegas, with the spot set to serve its last plate of chili and rice on June 28. The closure trims the Hawaiian favorite's local footprint at the same time the chain has been growing fast across the valley.
The company framed the shutdown as a "strategic move" tied to its broader growth plans. Zippy's said it is exploring other locations in the Las Vegas area and in other states and urged loyal customers to keep hitting its Summerlin and Arroyo Crossing restaurants, according to Hawaii News Now.
Las Vegas footprint
Zippy's opened its first mainland location in Las Vegas in October 2023 and has been adding stores across the valley ever since, a timeline laid out by the Las Vegas Review‑Journal. The outlet noted the chain's step-by-step roll out as it tested and built its local fan base.
Local TV coverage has also spotlighted how quickly the concept has caught on. FOX5 Las Vegas reported that Zippy's hit five Las Vegas area locations this spring, a rapid climb for a newcomer to the mainland dining scene.
Staff and next steps
Zippy's said every employee at the Hualapai Way restaurant has accepted a position at another Zippy's location within its Las Vegas operations, and the company publicly thanked staff and customers for their support, per Hawaii News Now.
The company has not disclosed what comes next for the Hualapai Way site and has yet to name any replacement tenant, leaving local diners to guess what might eventually take over the soon-to-be-vacant space.
