A midafternoon stabbing on Wednesday turned a Southeast Raleigh block into an active crime scene, leaving one man seriously injured and a suspect in custody, according to the Wake County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. to the 4200 block of Chandler Ridge Circle near Raleigh after reports of a stabbing. When they arrived, they found an adult man suffering from an apparent stab wound and rushed him to a local hospital with serious injuries. A suspect was detained at the scene, and charges are pending while detectives continue processing the area for evidence.
As reported by WRAL, deputies were dispatched to the neighborhood in the middle of the afternoon and found the victim on scene before emergency crews transported him to the hospital for treatment. The outlet noted that investigators stayed in the neighborhood into the evening as they worked to determine a possible motive and identify witnesses.
The News & Observer reported that the Chandler Ridge call came just hours after deputies responded to another stabbing in Wendell on the 6300 block of Old Mill Farm Drive. In that earlier case, officials arrested Earnhart Joyner III and charged him with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. In a news release quoted by the paper, Sheriff Willie Rowe thanked the community and credited Wake County deputies and Wendell police for their quick work as investigators pressed forward on both cases. Authorities told the paper they had not yet said whether the incidents were connected.
Pattern Of Attacks In Southern Wake
Local coverage this spring has tracked several knife attacks and stabbings across southern Wake County, and neighbors in some communities say the incidents have left them on edge. A Hoodline roundup chronicled a late May knife attack that sent two men to the hospital and noted other recent investigations in the same general area. 2 a.m. knife attack leaves two men stabbed highlighted how those cases have kept detectives busy over the last several weeks.
Investigation And Legal Note
The Wake County Sheriff's Office says the Chandler Ridge investigation remains active and has asked anyone with information to contact detectives. Under North Carolina law, an assault with a deadly weapon that causes serious injury can be charged under N.C. Gen. Stat. §14-32, which provides for a Class C felony in the most serious cases; prosecutors decide on charges after reviewing the evidence.
