A July 4 house party in northwest Aurora turned violent just after midnight when an adult man was shot in the abdomen, and now police are calling on everyone who was there to speak up. Officers say the shooting unfolded in the 1400 block of North Lima Street, and the wounded man was rushed to a hospital for treatment as detectives began searching for witnesses and video from the chaotic scene. Investigators say the case remains very much active.
Police seek witnesses
In a post via the Aurora Police Dept, investigators said the shooting happened at about 12:53 a.m. on July 4 and urged anyone who was at the party or saw what happened afterward to contact authorities. Detectives describe the investigation as active as they chase down tips and try to track any cell phone video or other footage guests may have captured.
Victim hospitalized after surgery
Local reporting from Sentinel Colorado says the man was taken to a nearby hospital with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries and later underwent surgery. According to the Sentinel, officers had not taken anyone into custody in connection with the shooting at the time of its report.
How to share tips and footage
Aurora's notice directs anyone with information, photos, or video from the party to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers rather than trying to play detective on their own. Metro Denver Crime Stoppers confirms that callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000 if their tip helps crack the case.
House-party shootings remain a local concern
Late-night gatherings have repeatedly ended in gunfire in and around Aurora this year, with local outlets chronicling multiple party-related shootings and follow-up canvases for witnesses. Coverage by Denver7 and Hoodline's reporting on an Aurora Christmas House Party highlights the same troubling pattern: a fight, a burst of gunfire and detectives later pleading for any scraps of video or eyewitness accounts.
Detectives in the July 4 case are still working through leads, and anyone who was in the 1400 block of North Lima Street after midnight or who has relevant footage is urged to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867). Aurora police say the investigation is ongoing and stress that even minor details or a brief clip could help them piece the night together.
