A person was hospitalized and a man was detained Friday after an aggravated assault outside a Dunkin' along State Highway 249 in northwest Harris County, turning an ordinary coffee run into a violent crime scene, according to deputies.
Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies arrived to find the victim on the sidewalk with severe head injuries. Emergency crews transported that person to a nearby hospital. While officers were still handling that scene, they were alerted to a second nearby incident involving another victim who reportedly suffered similar injuries.
According to ABC13 Houston, deputies responded to the Dunkin' Donuts in the 12600 block of State Highway 249, where they located the injured person on the sidewalk. Employees at the store gave deputies a description of a possible suspect seen riding a bicycle, and officers detained a man who matched that description for questioning.
Two Scenes Within Two Miles
The second call came from the 13700 block of SH 249, about two miles from the Dunkin' location, where another victim was reported. "Officials have not confirmed at this time that the two scenes are related," according to ABC13 Houston. HCSO detectives are investigating both scenes and are interviewing the detained man, the outlet reports.
Area Has Seen Other Violent Calls This Week
The incidents land on a week already marked by violent calls on the northwest side of Harris County, including a shooting at a Kroger on Thursday that left at least one person injured, according to Click2Houston. Deputies and constable teams have been juggling multiple active investigations in the area over the past several days.
Officials have not released the victim's condition or said whether any charges will be filed in connection with Friday's assault. Detectives continue to process evidence and interview the detained man. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
