
A death investigation is underway in Glynn County after officers found a body in a wooded area near Spur 25 and Chapel Crossing. Glynn County police say patrol units responded to a call on July 2, discovered a deceased individual and then brought in detectives and crime scene staff to secure and process the area. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Medical Examiner’s Office is expected to conduct procedures to determine the cause and manner of death. Police say they are holding back further details while the case remains active.
What investigators have said
According to Action News Jax, Glynn County patrol officers found the body after responding to a call, and the department’s Criminal Investigations Division then sent detectives and Crime Scene personnel into the woods. Investigators have interviewed several people who may have information. Police say more details will be released as they are confirmed.
GBI to determine cause
Per the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Medical Examiner’s Office provides forensic pathology services across Georgia and operates regional laboratories that perform autopsies, toxicology and related testing to determine cause and manner of death. Local agencies in coastal counties routinely use those resources when deaths occur.

Residents who were near Spur 25 and Chapel Crossing on or around July 2 are encouraged to contact investigators. According to the Glynn County Police Department, Silent Witness accepts anonymous tips by phone.
Local context
Glynn County has handled several other death and remains investigations in recent months. In January, Action News Jax reported that officers had found remains believed to be those of a missing 74-year-old woman. WJCL reported on a separate case in December 2025 in which investigators recovered a body from the Turtle River and sent it to the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office for testing.
