A 25-year-old man was swarmed and beaten by a group in Williamsbridge on Sunday, and Bronx detectives are now asking the public to help track down the crew they say is responsible.
Police say the man was left with head and body injuries after the assault and was taken to Jacobi Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition. Investigators say several suspects bolted on foot, and officers are now canvassing the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance video that might show what happened.
Investigators told News12 New York that the victim was approached by six people near the corner of Needham and Fish avenues last Sunday, and an argument quickly escalated into a group attack. According to the outlet, one suspect struck the man with a metal pipe while others punched and kicked him, and another person in the group flashed a firearm before everyone ran off. Police are urging anyone who knows anything about the assault to call Crime Stoppers, as reported by News12 New York.
Police appeal for tips
Detectives are asking anyone who was in the area at the time, especially those who might have surveillance or cellphone video, to hold on to that footage and contact investigators. The NYPD Crime Stoppers program allows people to share information anonymously by phone, online, or through a mobile app, according to the City of New York.
Violence in Williamsbridge
The Williamsbridge section of the Bronx has been on edge after several recent high profile incidents, including a May 30 shooting in the neighborhood and another brazen pipe attack in April in nearby Mount Eden. Together, they paint a picture of a rough spring on Bronx streets, as covered by 1010 WINS and a savage pipe beating report.
So far, police have not announced any arrests in the Williamsbridge group assault, and investigators say the case remains very much active, as reported by News12 New York. Anyone with information or relevant video is asked to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers.
