A 37-year-old man was slashed in the face during rush hour Monday in front of 1652 University Avenue in the Bronx, and police are now asking the public to help find the attacker. The victim was left with facial injuries, and the NYPD's Crime Stoppers unit has put out a wanted alert complete with surveillance stills of the suspect.
According to NYPD Crime Stoppers, the assault unfolded around 4:55 p.m. on July 13, when an unidentified individual approached the victim, showed a cutting instrument and slashed him across the face. The public bulletin urges anyone who may have captured video of the incident to hold onto it and share it with detectives. Crime Stoppers notes that tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $3,500, with details listed on NYPD Crime Stoppers.
Where the Attack Took Place
The assault happened outside 1652 University Avenue in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx. That address appears in borough property files, according to city building records, confirming the exact location. The stretch of University Avenue has seen its share of recent violence, including a knife attack in April that also triggered a wanted alert from police.
How to Help Police
Investigators are asking anyone with information or footage to come forward. Tipsters can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), send a direct message to @NYPDTips, or submit an anonymous tip online via NYPD Crime Stoppers; Spanish-language assistance is available. Crime Stoppers says callers can remain anonymous and may qualify for up to $3,500 if their information leads to an arrest and indictment.
No arrests have been announced so far, and detectives are still piecing together what happened. Authorities are urging Bronx residents, commuters and business owners along University Avenue to check doorbell cameras, security systems and phone video, and to contact Crime Stoppers with any leads.
