A frantic search is underway in the Bronx after police say a man shoved another rider into an oncoming subway train at the Fordham Road–Grand Concourse station, turning an ordinary commute into a terrifying close call.
Police released a wanted image of the suspect on Wednesday and said the attack happened as a train was pulling into the station. Detectives are canvassing the busy transit hub for witnesses and surveillance video. No arrests had been announced in the initial report.
Police Ask The Public For Help
According to CBS News New York, investigators have released a clear image of a person of interest and are urging anyone who recognizes him to come forward. Authorities have not publicly identified the suspect or shared details about the victim’s condition. Transit detectives are leading the case, the outlet reports.
Fordham Transit Hub Has Seen Other Violence
The Fordham Road–Grand Concourse station has already been on the NYPD’s radar, with recent assaults and stabbings unsettling regular riders. Coverage of a June Fordham Road slashing at the same station noted stepped-up patrols on the platforms and repeated calls for commuters to hang on to any cellphone footage that might help investigators.
How To Report Tips
Anyone with information about the shove is asked to contact the NYPD’s tip line. Crime Stoppers accepts anonymous tips at 1-800-577-TIPS, the City of New York notes. Witnesses who recorded the incident are urged to preserve their video and share it with detectives.
Transit investigators say the probe is active and ongoing and are asking anyone who was in or around the station at the time to speak up, even if they think what they saw or heard was minor.
