Yesterday morning's commute along State Route 32 in Brown County turned tragic when a 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed after hitting a line of stopped traffic near Schweighart Road in Eagle Township. The crash happened around 9:30 a.m., and troopers pronounced the rider dead at the scene. Westbound SR 32 was shut down for several hours while investigators worked the crash site.
Crash Details And Investigation
According to WCPO, the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Georgetown Post said the motorcycle crashed into the rear of a car that was stopped at a red light, then struck a truck that was also stopped in the same lane. Troopers identified the rider as 28-year-old Charles T. Rump and said he was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. A passenger in the car that was first hit was not injured, and the Georgetown Post said its investigation remains ongoing.
As reported by WKRC Local 12, troopers closed SR 32 while they processed the scene, and OSHP had not released any additional details as of early afternoon. The shutdown caused major backups for drivers headed toward Cincinnati, who found themselves stuck behind the investigation with few options to detour. Authorities say the probe is still active and did not immediately provide more information to local media.
A Stretch With A History Of Crashes
The intersection at Schweighart Road has seen serious wrecks before. In 2016, two men were killed while pushing a disabled van at night on SR 32 at the same location, according to FOX19. That crash also led to extended closures and renewed attention on safety concerns along the stretch.
The Georgetown Post is continuing to investigate yesterday's fatal crash and has not said whether any charges will be filed, WCPO reported. We will update this article if OSHP releases more information.
