A 19-year-old man was found shot to death in a southeast Canton apartment complex parking lot, and police now say a 16-year-old is the focus of a murder warrant while a 25-year-old suspect is already behind bars. The killing, discovered Tuesday morning, has rattled residents at the Skyline Terrace complex and kicked off a multi-agency search for the teenage suspect.
Where the victim was found
Officers responded just after a 7 a.m. 911 call on July 14 to the 900 block of Alan Page Drive SE, where a caller reported an unresponsive man near a vehicle. First responders found 19-year-old Jordan A. Horton with a gunshot wound to his lower back. He was later pronounced dead at the scene, according to WOIO.
Suspects and charges
Investigators say they obtained warrants charging 16-year-old Savheon R. Monroe with murder, felonious assault and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises. Police also secured a warrant for 25-year-old Jason L. Singletary on complicity to commit murder, felonious assault and related firearm counts, as reported by Jordan Miller News.
Arrest update
According to local reporting, Singletary turned himself in yesterday and was booked into the Stark County Jail. Authorities say Monroe is still on the run. Court records cited in that coverage indicate Singletary is scheduled for an arraignment tomorrow. See reporting and filings for the full charge list and scheduled court dates.
Neighbors describe the scene
Residents at the Skyline Terrace complex told reporters they heard a heated argument followed by gunfire overnight, hours before the body was discovered at dawn. A nearby resident told Jordan Miller News, "I heard the pops and saw the flash from the gun."
Police seeking tips
Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the Canton Police Detective Bureau at 330-489-3144, the Canton Communications Center at 330-649-5800, or the U.S. Marshals Service tip line. Those contact details and the public plea for assistance were shared in local coverage of the case, including by WHBC.
Skyline Terrace's recent violence
This killing is the latest violent incident tied to the Skyline Terrace apartments. The complex was also the scene of another homicide earlier this summer that led to a multi-agency manhunt. That earlier case and the enforcement response were detailed in coverage such as another homicide earlier this summer and other local reports.
Legal status
The suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty. Because one person being sought is a juvenile, any processing or prosecution of that individual would move through juvenile-court procedures if and when they are taken into custody, while the adult suspect faces felony charges in Stark County court, according to local reporting and court records.
