The Arizona Cardinals front office just took a major hit as training camp looms. On Friday the NFL suspended personnel executive Ryan Gold indefinitely after the league concluded he violated its gambling policy, centering on allegations that he shared confidential draft intel and placed parlay bets on college and pro games.
According to 8 News Now, which carried the Associated Press report, the league's review found that Gold provided confidential, non-public information about Arizona's 2026 draft selections before the picks were announced and that he participated in parlay wagers on NFL and college contests. Investigators conducted interviews with relevant parties and examined electronic records. The NFL said there was no indication any coach or player was involved and noted that Gold has the right to appeal the suspension.
Who Ryan Gold Is
Gold has been a fixture in the Cardinals' scouting department since 2014. He was promoted to director of college scouting in June 2025, a job that puts him in charge of the club’s draft evaluations and the college-scouting staff. The team's front-office profile lists Gold as being in his 13th season with the organization and notes earlier roles as assistant director of college scouting from 2022 to 2024 and college scouting coordinator from 2018 to 2021, according to Arizona Cardinals.
What the League Said
The NFL reiterated that its Gambling Policy, which is reviewed annually with all league personnel, "strictly prohibits anyone in the NFL from participating in or facilitating any form of sports gambling, and from providing third parties non-public information," according to national reports. League spokespeople told reporters the Cardinals cooperated with the review and said there was "no reason to believe the integrity of any NFL game was affected," per coverage by Yahoo Sports.
Where This Leaves the Cardinals
For Arizona, the timing is brutal. With training camp on the horizon and the 2026 roster still taking shape, the Cardinals suddenly find themselves without the person who was overseeing their college scouting operation.
The organization issued a brief statement saying it "fully support[s] the league’s decision" and that its focus remains on preparing for training camp and the 2026 season, according to reporting by the Houston Chronicle. The team did not immediately name a replacement to handle Gold's responsibilities. Under league rules, Gold can appeal, and that process will determine whether he can return to his role at any point.
Policy Context
The suspension lands in the middle of a broader NFL crackdown on gambling-policy violations as legal sports betting continues to expand. In recent years the league has disciplined both players and staff for breaking its rules and has ramped up education efforts so teams receive regular briefings on what is and is not allowed, according to earlier reporting by ESPN. That recent history helps explain why the NFL moved quickly and publicly once internal information about Gold's alleged conduct surfaced.
