A January confrontation outside the HealthPoint clinic on East Meeker Street in Kent has now been officially labeled a homicide, after the security guard injured in the scuffle died months later from his injuries.

Authorities say the guard, hurt during a physical altercation in early January, died in May from complications tied to blunt-force trauma to his head.

What the medical examiner found

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office updated its records on July 9 to classify the death as a homicide, according to Kent Reporter. In its mid-May decedent list, the office recorded case 26-01250 as Samson Mohammed, 62, with a date of death of 05/12/2026 and an incident date of 01/09/2026 at 403 E. Meeker St., and listed the Kent Police Department as the investigating agency. KCMEO decedent list (May 15).

Police response and suspect review

Kent Police Deputy Chief Matt Stansfield said the incident began as a physical altercation between a person at the clinic and the facility’s security guard. During that confrontation, the guard was shoved and fell, striking his head on the pavement.

"The security guard was shoved by this person and fell, hitting their head on the pavement," Stansfield wrote in a July 9 email. He added that investigators "have all the parties identified," that "we do have a suspect," and that the case is headed to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office for review. Kent Reporter.

What a homicide ruling means

The medical examiner’s designation of "homicide" refers to the manner of death, meaning a death that results from the actions of another person. It does not, on its own, determine criminal guilt, according to the King County Medical Examiner’s office. Charging decisions are made separately by prosecutors after they review the investigative work completed by police. King County Medical Examiner.
