
A drive-by shooting in South Los Angeles on Friday left one man dead and a neighborhood searching for answers, authorities said.
Witnesses told police that two men in a vehicle pulled up alongside the victim on the 6600 block of South Vermont Avenue and opened fire. The shooters then sped away, leaving the man critically wounded on the street. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to KTLA.
Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots as the gunmen fired from the vehicle before fleeing. Investigators have not yet released the victim’s name or any description of the suspects. For now, the motive and what led up to the attack remain a mystery.
What investigators say
Officers responding to the scene on South Vermont Avenue found a male victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Emergency crews transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead, investigators told KTLA.
Detectives say the circumstances of the deadly shooting are still unclear. They are canvassing the area for witnesses and combing through any available surveillance or cellphone video in hopes of piecing together what happened and identifying the attackers.
