A person walking in east Fort Worth died Wednesday after being hit by a vehicle near the 7900 block of Ederville Road at Aldra Drive, according to police. The pedestrian was taken to a nearby hospital, where they later died from their injuries. Officers said the driver stayed at the scene after the collision.
Responding officers arrived Wednesday to find the pedestrian critically injured, and investigators later told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram the driver tried to swerve to avoid the person but could not. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the victim’s identity, and the city’s Traffic Investigation Unit is handling the case to determine what led up to the fatal crash.
City safety context
The death comes as Fort Worth continues to expand pedestrian-safety efforts under its Vision Zero program, which flags missing sidewalks, speed problems and poor lighting as recurring factors in serious crashes. The city’s plan, detailed by the City of Fort Worth, notes that people walking and other vulnerable roadway users make up a relatively small share of total collisions but an outsized share of crashes that result in death or serious injury, and it outlines strategies and federal funding aimed at high-injury corridors.
What the police are asking
Traffic investigators have not announced any charges and say the inquiry is ongoing. Police are asking anyone who saw the crash or has video of the incident to contact the department; the Fort Worth Police Department lists its non-emergency line and other reporting options on its contact page.
