Two people are recovering after a pre-dawn double shooting on Detroit's east side, and police say the gunmen are still on the loose.
Investigators say the gunfire broke out around 2:55 a.m. on May 10 in the 500 block of East Larned Street, where two victims were shot but survived. Detroit police have released descriptions of two suspects and are asking for the public's help as detectives chase down leads.
According to ClickOnDetroit, officers say the two suspects, who were traveling in separate vehicles, fired multiple shots that hit the victims. The first suspect is described as a Black man wearing a green beanie, black sweatshirt and black overalls, seen driving a white Chevrolet Cruze. The second suspect is described as a Black man with long locs, wearing a pink zip-up hoodie over a white shirt, who was a passenger in a black Cadillac SUV.
Police are offering a $1,000 reward in the case and are asking anyone with information to contact the Detroit Police Department’s 3rd Precinct Detective Unit at 313-596-1340.
How to submit tips
According to the Detroit Police Department, the city offers online tools for submitting crime tips, along with a cash-reward program for information that helps investigators close cases.
Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-SPEAK-UP or using the organization’s website.
Recent east-side violence
The appeal for help comes amid a string of shootings on Detroit’s east side this spring. On May 20, a deadly double shooting near McKinney and Courville Streets left two people dead and rattled the neighborhood, as reported by FOX 2 Detroit. In another case in late May, a separate double shooting left one man critically injured and another stable, according to ClickOnDetroit.
Police say they are continuing to follow up on leads and are urging residents to review their doorbell and security camera footage for anything that might help investigators identify the shooters.
