What started as an arrest attempt on a burglary warrant in Volusia County turned into a tense pursuit through Edgewater, ending only after police pulled off not one but two pit maneuvers — and then found an 11-year-old girl inside the suspect’s car.

Edgewater police said officers joined the chase after deputies with the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office tried to take the driver into custody on a residential burglary warrant in eastern Volusia County. The vehicle crossed into Edgewater, where officers moved in and ultimately arrested the driver at the scene.

According to WKMG ClickOrlando, Edgewater Police said they assisted the sheriff’s office after deputies attempted to arrest 28-year-old Jarkvis Peoples. Investigators said Peoples fled from deputies, and officers later located and tried to stop his vehicle in Edgewater.

Bodycam, dashcam show twin pit maneuvers

As reported by WESH, body-worn and dash-camera video shows officers using two PIT maneuvers to bring the chase to a close. Police said the first move damaged a rear tire, but the car kept going until a second maneuver finally stopped the vehicle at Old Mission Road and Massey Drive.

During the pursuit, the fleeing car "lightly struck" a civilian vehicle, according to police statements reported by WESH. No injuries were reported. After the stop, officers discovered Peoples’ 11-year-old daughter inside the vehicle; she was not reported injured.

Edgewater’s social media post, quoted by WKMG ClickOrlando, publicly applauded the multi-agency takedown, saying, "Outstanding work by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office and all involved." The department said the first PIT damaged a rear tire, and the vehicle continued briefly before officers executed the second maneuver that ended the chase.

Charges, criminal history and what comes next

Per WESH, Peoples faces charges that include aggravated fleeing to elude with injury, child abuse, and driving with a suspended license. The outlet also reports that police said Peoples has been arrested multiple times in Volusia County over the past four years on charges that include burglary and narcotics-related offenses.

Booking logs posted online list a recent Volusia County booking for Jarkvis Peoples, according to Florida Arrests. Authorities say the investigation remains active, and further details are expected from the sheriff’s office and the courts as the case moves forward.
