What started as a violent domestic incident inside a home on the 16000 block of Northeast Sandy Boulevard ended with a Portland man in custody and two family members injured, police say. Officers responded Sunday after reports that a woman had been stabbed by a relative. She was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, and a second family member also suffered non-life-threatening wounds.
Police surrounded the residence and used loudspeaker announcements as they worked to secure the scene. Investigators say they were able to safely remove the victim and other family members before the suspect ultimately surrendered.
Arrest and charges
According to KATU, officers arrested 30-year-old Jonathan A. Pete and booked him on counts that include assault, menacing and attempted assault specific to domestic violence. He also faces two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, along with additional warrants.
KATU reports that Pete was lodged in the Multnomah County Detention Center after his arrest and that the investigation remains active.
Resources for survivors
Local agencies continue to urge anyone affected by domestic violence to reach out for help as soon as it is safe to do so. Multnomah County maintains a resource page and works with advocates who keep an updated list of confidential services for survivors and their families.
According to Multnomah County, Call to Safety operates a 24-hour crisis line at 503-235-5333 or toll-free at 1-888-235-5333, offering advocacy, safety planning and shelter referrals. The county also directs people to the Gateway Center and the Portland Police Bureau Special Victims Unit for additional assistance.
What happens next
Pete currently faces domestic-violence-specific counts and will remain in custody while prosecutors and detectives review the case, KATU reported. The Multnomah County District Attorney's Office will determine whether to file formal charges and set future court dates.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Portland Police Bureau to assist the ongoing investigation.
