What started as a few suspicious packages in the FedEx system has turned into a full-blown drug case centered on a Woodbridge smoke shop, where investigators say raw cannabis and mushrooms were turned into a full menu of edibles and concentrates worth roughly $450,000.

Authorities say the operation took in marijuana and psilocybin, converted them into gummies, vape cartridges, oils and wax, then sold the products both online and over the counter. The months-long probe came to a head with late-June raids that netted large stashes of drugs and firearms. Two men are now in custody, a third suspect is still wanted, and the case is stirring fresh local debate over where regulated, unregulated and outright illicit cannabis products are really coming from.

According to Patch, the Prince William County Narcotics Task Force served search warrants at five locations on June 23. Investigators reported seizing thousands of grams of marijuana, nearly two kilograms of psilocybin mushrooms, thousands of THC gummies and vape cartridges, along with firearms and other controlled substances. Much of the drug processing, Patch reports, allegedly took place inside a Woodbridge tobacco and vape shop called the Rat Pack Clubhouse.

FedEx Flagged The Shipments

The whole thing kicked off when FedEx employees spotted packages they thought did not look quite right. The company’s security team pulled four parcels for a closer look, and investigators later traced them back to the Woodbridge shop, according to The Washington Post. The Post reports that authorities have pegged the total value of the recovered material at more than $450,000.

Multi-state Probe Helped Build The Case

The investigation did not stay inside Virginia’s borders. In March, Virginia State Police intercepted a package of roughly 150 pounds that was headed to Prince William County, and later, North Carolina troopers stopped a vehicle and confiscated about 280 pounds of marijuana that authorities tie to the same network, according to Daily Voice. Investigators say those earlier seizures were key pieces of the probable cause that led to the June search warrants.

Arrests And Charges

Prince William County police arrested 50-year-old Wilquins Charleston on June 23, followed by the July 3 arrest of 28-year-old Jacob Tyler Wiley, on charges that include conspiracy to distribute more than five pounds of marijuana and possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I/II narcotic, according to Patch. Investigators say 25-year-old Matthew Blake Pollard is still wanted and are asking anyone with information on his location to contact Prince William County Police.

Legal Implications

The Prince William County Narcotics Task Force worked this case alongside the Virginia State Police, the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the ATF and the DEA, according to Daily Voice. That level of teamwork means state prosecutors and federal authorities will both be looking over the evidence, and officials say they will decide on any additional state or federal charges as the investigation moves forward.

What’s Next

Detectives say they are still sorting through records tied to the shipments and online sales and are continuing to chase down leads from the searches and earlier seizures. For now, the Rat Pack Clubhouse continues to list a Woodbridge location online, and authorities have not said whether the business itself could face any licensing or regulatory action while the criminal case continues to unfold.
