Cincinnati woke up under a blanket of patchy fog and mist with temps stuck in the mid 60s, but the cool start will not last. Sunshine this afternoon will send readings into the low to mid 90s, with a high near 95°F, light southwest breezes, and plenty of sticky humidity. A Heat Advisory is posted for parts of the region, and air quality will slide into the unhealthy range for sensitive groups later tonight.
Heat And Air Quality
According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, a Heat Advisory runs from noon to 8 p.m. today, with heat index values that could climb to around 100°F in the hottest neighborhoods. The Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency has an Air Quality Advisory in place through midnight, warning that ozone may reach levels unhealthy for sensitive groups.
Today Through The Weekend
Sunshine dominates today, delivering highs in the low to mid 90s, followed by a mostly clear night with lows near 73°F. The heat and humidity stick around tomorrow, with heat index values near 101°F. A passing trough then brings a better chance for showers and thunderstorms on Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18, with locally heavy downpours possible. If you have outdoor plans either day, keep an eye on updated timing before you head out.
What To Do
Limit strenuous outdoor work between noon and 8 p.m., drink plenty of water, and check on young children, older neighbors, and pets during peak heat. People with asthma or other lung conditions should stay indoors while the Air Quality Advisory is active. Small moves like refueling after 8 p.m. and cutting down on vehicle idling can help reduce ozone this afternoon. For updates, monitor the NWS Wilmington page and the Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency.
