A late-night standoff at the Carriage Hill Apartments in Dearborn Heights ended early today when a man who had pointed a gun at officers surrendered after being wounded by police. Officers had been dispatched to the complex just before midnight for a reported domestic disturbance and stayed put through the night as negotiators worked to make contact. The man eventually gave himself up and was taken to a nearby hospital.
According to FOX 2 Detroit, Dearborn Heights police said an officer fired toward the apartment after the suspect pointed a firearm at officers outside the unit. Negotiators later convinced the man to surrender, with the account coming from a written police statement provided to reporters.

What Comes Next
Officer-involved shootings in Michigan often trigger an outside review by state investigators or county prosecutors, and the Michigan Attorney General’s office notes that it can lead or support such investigations when requested. The Michigan Attorney General's Office outlined its role in reviewing serious use-of-force cases in a recent statement. Dearborn Heights police did not immediately say whether an external agency would take over this particular investigation.
"During the encounter, the suspect pointed a firearm at an officer," Dearborn Heights police said in a statement, according to FOX 2 Detroit. "The officer discharged their weapon toward the apartment in response to the threat." Police added that negotiators confirmed the suspect had been wounded and eventually persuaded him to surrender.
Investigators still have plenty to sort out. Police did not immediately release the suspect's name or say whether charges would be filed, adding that more information would be shared as it becomes available.
