What Investigators Will Examine
In crashes involving commercial vehicles, investigators typically pull the truck’s Electronic Logging Device records, maintenance logs and any event-data recorder, often called a black box, output to reconstruct speed, brake use and driver activity before impact. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration notes that event-data recorder and pre-crash data are frequently used to verify what happened in the seconds before a collision. Authorities are also expected to review traffic-camera footage and witness statements as part of the probe.
A Wider Safety Picture
Houston has seen troubling year-over-year crash figures: last year was the deadliest on record for the city with 301 traffic fatalities, according to Texas Department of Transportation data. State crash records show heavy-vehicle incidents remain a significant share of fatal crashes on major corridors like I-10, keeping pressure on officials to focus on safety and enforcement efforts.
