Two 19-year-olds are now behind bars after an armed robbery in Kyle set off a days-long police search across the city. The holdup happened Sunday in the 3700 block of Dacy Lane, and officers say the suspects were gone by the time they got to the scene.

According to FOX 7 Austin, investigators eventually identified the suspects as 19-year-old Kasen Priestly of Buda and 19-year-old Timothy Boyd of Kyle. Priestly was arrested on Wednesday, and Boyd was taken into custody on Thursday. Both men are facing charges of aggravated robbery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

How Police Say They Tracked the Getaway Vehicle

Kyle police told reporters they leaned on automated license-plate reader data to follow the trail of the getaway car and zero in on the two suspects. As outlined in a City of Kyle council video, the department has expanded its ALPR program in recent years and says the system kicks out stolen-vehicle and hotlist alerts that help detectives develop and follow leads.

What the Charges Mean

Per the Texas Penal Code §29.03 and the Texas Penal Code §22.02, aggravated robbery and aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon are felony offenses that carry significant prison time if a defendant is convicted. Aggravated robbery can be charged as a first-degree felony, while aggravated assault is bumped up in severity when a weapon is used or serious bodily injury is involved.

Investigation Ongoing; How to Submit Tips

The Kyle Police Department says the investigation is still active, and detectives are asking anyone with information to come forward. Tipsters can call the department’s non-emergency line at 512-268-3232 or contact Hays County Crime Stoppers, according to the City of Kyle. Police say the cases will now move through the Hays County courts as the investigation continues.
