Authorities have charged a Lancaster mother in the death of her 2-year-old son, Legend Lee, after the toddler was hospitalized with severe burn injuries and later died, officials said.
Rayzhanna Greenhoward, 28, was taken into custody on July 9 and is being held at the Lynwood jail on $2 million bail, according to jail records. Prosecutors on Monday filed multiple felony counts, accusing her in connection with her son's death.
According to court documents, Greenhoward is facing charges of murder, use of a deadly weapon, assault on a child causing death and child abuse resulting in death. Her arrest followed an eight-month homicide investigation by Los Angeles County sheriff’s detectives that began after the Kern County medical examiner reported the child's Nov. 26, 2025 death in the 44000 block of Cedar Avenue in Lancaster, as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
In the aftermath of Legend's death, family and friends launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover memorial costs, remembering the boy as a "bright light in so many lives." The fundraiser description says he died after complications following skin-graft surgery in Lancaster, and offers the family's account and tributes, though officials have shared few public details about how the injuries occurred, according to GoFundMe.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office has formally brought murder and related counts against Greenhoward, sending the case into the county's criminal court system. Bail has been set at $2 million, and she remains in custody at the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood. Prosecutors say her next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday in Lancaster, according to the Los Angeles Times.
