
A late-night argument in South Los Angeles turned deadly early Monday when a man was fatally stabbed at a familiar neighborhood crossroads.
The attack was reported around 12:50 a.m. at the intersection of 64th Street and Vermont Avenue in the Vermont-Slauson neighborhood, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Paramedics took the wounded man to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to MyNewsLA, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said two men got into an argument that escalated into a fight, and one of them stabbed the other before taking off from the scene. The spokesman told the outlet the victim’s name was being withheld until relatives could be notified. Police had not released a suspect description, and detectives were still working the case.

The intersection sits in the Vermont-Slauson area of South L.A., which the Los Angeles Times notes still sees clusters of violent incidents even as citywide homicide totals fell to a decades-low last year.
