What Winners Need to Know About Claiming Prizes
Winners are advised to sign the back of any winning ticket and follow the Colorado Lottery’s claim instructions, outlined on its Colorado Lottery page. Prizes of $599 or less can usually be cashed at a retailer, while prizes of $600 or more must be claimed online, by mail, or at a Lottery claims center. Players generally have 180 days from the drawing date to file a claim.
The Lottery also notes that federal and state tax withholding rules apply to larger prizes and recommends that winners consider getting financial and tax advice before making big moves with their new windfalls.
