Nearly a year after a deadly home invasion shattered his family’s life on Pine Oaks Lane, Middleburg widower Vincent Cicone is turning to strangers online for help keeping the basics afloat.

Cicone has launched a GoFundMe to cover immediate expenses after his wife, Samantha Cicone, was killed during a home invasion last September. The fundraiser comes close to 10 months after the Sept. 15, 2025, shooting that left one person dead and multiple others wounded.

The campaign lists an $11,000 goal and, at the time it was reported, had pulled in roughly $800. In his appeal, Cicone writes that his family “misses her every day” and is straining under medical and funeral bills. As reported by News4Jax, the page asks for help with those costs and support for the couple’s children.

How the Clay County Home Invasion Unfolded

Authorities say the violence broke out on Sept. 15, 2025, when 45-year-old Mauricio Vasco Lopez went to a residence in the 3300 block of Pine Oaks Lane, forced his way inside and opened fire. The rampage ended only after a 16-year-old in the home grabbed a shotgun and shot the intruder, who later died at a hospital, according to the Miami Herald.

Victims, Suspect and an Ongoing Investigation

Deputies found four people had been shot. Samantha Cicone was pronounced dead at the scene, a 21-year-old woman was left in critical condition and a 48-year-old man was treated and released, local TV reports showed. Investigators said they found no evidence Lopez had any connection to the household and noted he had recent arrests and apparent mental health crises. A search also turned up additional guns and body armor, WCJB reported.

GoFundMe as a Stopgap for a Grieving Family

Cicone’s GoFundMe post describes the fundraiser as a short-term lifeline to cover funeral costs and day-to-day expenses while the family confronts the emotional fallout of Samantha’s killing. The campaign’s timing — nearly a year after the shooting — highlights how long those financial aftershocks can last and the gap that community fundraising often tries to fill, according to News4Jax.

Officials Praise Teen, Seek Answers

Clay County officials have publicly praised the teenager who fired on Lopez, saying his actions helped protect the household, while stressing that the motive behind the attack remains unclear. Authorities have asked anyone with information to contact the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, as reported by Jacksonville Today, and the investigation is still active.
