A weeks-long search for a missing Fleming County woman has ended in tragedy across the river in Clermont County, Ohio. Authorities say human remains found inside a vehicle there belong to 69-year-old Debra Wireman of Flemingsburg.
Investigators located the car on July 3, and the Clermont County Coroner’s Office confirmed Wireman’s identity on July 7. She had been reported missing after she was last seen in the Aberdeen, Ohio, area on June 17.
According to WLWT, detectives in Ohio found Wireman’s white 2020 Kia Forte after receiving an alert that matched the vehicle to a missing-person report. The Clermont County Coroner later confirmed the remains as Wireman, officials said. Investigators have not shared additional details as the case remains under active review.
Where she was last seen
Flemingsburg police say Wireman was last seen around 4:30 p.m. on June 17 in Aberdeen, Ohio, heading toward Maysville in a white 2020 Kia Forte with front-end damage, according to LEX18. The department shared her photo and vehicle description and asked people across northeastern Kentucky and southern Ohio to check their properties, review any camera footage, and report potential sightings.
Family members and volunteers searched in the days after she disappeared, hoping for a different outcome as the case drew attention on both sides of the Ohio River.
How the vehicle was identified
Detectives in Clermont County were alerted when a notification tied the white Kia to a missing-person entry, and traffic-camera footage later showed a vehicle with matching front-end damage, local outlets reported. The car was found on July 3 with human remains inside, and the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office is leading the death investigation while autopsy results are pending, officials told CBS News Pittsburgh.
Investigation and the family
Flemingsburg police wrote on Facebook that, while the outcome was not what anyone had hoped for, they were thankful Wireman had been found and that her family could begin to receive some measure of closure, according to reporting by the Lexington Herald‑Leader. The department said it would not release further details out of respect for Wireman’s relatives and to protect the integrity of the ongoing Ohio investigation.
Next steps and how to help
Autopsy and forensic testing can take several weeks, and the Clermont County Coroner’s Office will complete its medical examination as part of the wider probe, per the coroner’s office.
Anyone with information connected to Wireman’s disappearance or the vehicle was urged to contact the Flemingsburg Police Department at (606) 845‑2121, or call 911 if information is urgent, as advised by LEX18.
